Basil Lemongrass Soap

I’ve been quiet for almost a week, I know — I’ve been busy! But you’ll hear about that soon. Right now I want to introduce my Basil Lemongrass Soap.
I’d bought the lemongrass oil a while ago, planning to do sample soaps for a friend to use as giveaways for her own business. I couldn’t figure out what to blend it with, though — I tried a lot of different scents and none of them wanted to work. I finally had a revelation while lingering over a plate of curry — and bought a bottle of basil essential oil.
Sweet lemongrass and earthy basil go just as well in a soap as in a good curry. I’ve added basil leaves for gentle exfoliation. I really like this soap — I bet you will too.
Echinacea Tincture in a Treasury!

I’m a member of a Facebook group called It’s Better Handmade — a great place to find lovely handmade items of all types. If you like buying handmade, I highly recommend checking it out.
Whatshername on Etsy (yes, that’s her shop name!) has put together a gorgeously pink Treasury just from the It’s Better Handmade folks! And my Echinacea Tincture is part of it!
So are a lot of other awesome products! Some simply beautiful jewelry, a pair of scarves — one knitted, one felted — and a pair of scrubbies, among other things. And you know how I love the scrubbies.
Y’all go and check it out!
Ma Cobb’s Joint Salve
By request — a salve version of my popular, effective Ma Cobb’s Joint Liniment!
Some folks just seem to prefer a salve to an oil when it comes to rubbing it on. And I’m okay with that! And so Ma Cobb’s Joint Salve — with all the active ingredients of Ma Cobb’s Joint Liniment, plus capsicum oil for extra penetrating power.
This is good potent stuff — just as effective as the liniment, but in a form that works better for some people. If you’re one of the folks that’s been hoping for a thicker version of Ma Cobb’s Joint Liniment, here it is!
Dragonsspine Champions
Last Saturday I went to another SCA event — and this time I remembered my camera, too.
I set up the booth, of course — this time in a borrowed EZ-up:
It was a smaller event than I’d expected, but I had a good time. I was set up next to a couple of friends and their dogs:
This is Nicki and Rae (spelling optional). They’re terribly sweet, and even Loiosh doesn’t mind them too much. I’m very fond of them myself.
I didn’t manage to get any pictures of the actual fighting, but I got a couple nice shots of the rest of the event. A bunch of people lounging under a rather nice canopy:
I really like the coloured canvas so much better than the plain off-white stuff. It’s more expensive, though, so not a lot of people use it.
We had musicians! I really enjoy listening to live music at events like this — heck, anywhere, really. We’ve been spoiled by audio recording and radios and such but on the other hand, there’s not near as much music played live as there once was. It’s one of the things I really enjoy about the SCA:
Someone had this awesome shade to put over his armor — I love this kind of heraldic display. It just makes things look right.
And of course Loiosh was there — but he spent most of the day hiding. He really likes sleeping on empty suitcases — who knows why?
A Very Minty Treasury

My Minty Footy Body and Linen Mist has been featured in an Etsy Treasury!
It’s been a good month for Treasuries, and I’m pretty happy about it. Birdiesporch put together a beautiful Treasury full of things inspired by mint — my minty spray has been joined by a lovely-sounding Wintergreen Mint lip balm, a sweet pair of Mint-coloured cowboy boots, a lovely knit Mint cotton scarf, and a string of Mint green glass pearls. I’m in good company!
If you’re fond of mint, do check this Treasury out.
Friday Feature: Riley!
I always feature handmade stuff…but this one’s special.
Welcome Riley Franklin Kometa, born June 16, 2010, to my sister Karen and her husband Ryan. I’m an aunt!
Estes Park Wool Market
Sunday I took a day off — I’m trying to do that every once in a while, and y’all in back can stop laughing now — and went up to the Estes Park Wool Market. I knew that there were going to be wooly animals there, since Mel had gone on at some length about llamas and alpacas and sheeps! But what I hadn’t realized is that the wool market is primarily about the animals.
There were competitions for sheep, llama, alpaca, and goats — we got to watch part of the sheep judging, complete with proud kids and 4-H banners. And exceptionally cranky sheep. We didn’t try to pet those.
We tried to pet just about everything else though. The llamas and alpacas tended to be very aloof, though we found a few who didn’t mind some attention.
The sheep were (with the exception of the ones being judged) far friendlier.
One of them didn’t want to let us go, he was having so much fun getting scratched.
Momma and baby sheep:
Look at the horns on this guy! A lot of the sheep had four horns — it seems to be pretty common — but this guy’s were the awesomest.
And there was a baby yak! He was only six days old and was being bottle fed. He was adorable! Such a tiny thing. We gave him lots of love.
There were big grownup yaks too. Even grownup yaks are terribly cute.
Yak butt!
Friday Feature: Hats by Anne
Anne of Hats by Anne came to her craft recently — she retired from a long teaching career two years ago to discover that she has a talent for crochet — in fact, she never uses patterns to make her beautiful hats and scarves. I admit I’m impressed!
She crochets in everything from polyester suede and acrylic yarn to cotton and even bamboo. Her hats range from simple slouches to newsboy caps — I have no idea how she manages that without a pattern but she does! And two dollars from every sale she makes goes to the Hospice of Denver.
Her work is simply gorgeous — here’s a sampling:
If you’re looking for the perfect crocheted hat or scarf — go check out Hats by Anne!
Seriously Flyered Up
I can’t figure out a way to embed this (I’m sure they do this deliberately), but my sister? She was on the news.
Seriously. Go watch. It’s hysterical.
